Well, it seems to be all cat news, all the time here on my LiveJournal!
Friday, we were told that Purry had kidney problems and a probable brain tumor. Saturday, we were told that she had only kidney problems, no sign of a brain tumor. Yesterday, we saw the same vet that we saw Friday night, and she insisted that yes, Purry has both kidney failure and a brain tumor. This is one of the things that I find most frustrating about modern medicine -- the doctors often disagree with each other, and since they don't have time to talk to each other, the patient (or the person responsible for the patient) ends up in the middle. At any rate, I left a message with the vet who is there today, whom we haven't met yet, suggesting that Purry receive Prednisone (a corticosteroid) to relieve pressure in the brain, in case she does have a tumor. Whether she can receive Prednisone or not, though, may depend on whether the values of toxins in her blood have dropped.
When we got home, Purry's daughter, Yummy, had a sneezing fit, and I was worried that I was going to have another sick cat on my hands! But it stopped after a while, and Yummy seems fine now. My guess is, she stuck her nose under the furniture and inhalled a snootfull of dust.
Here is an amusing picture of Purry, taken about 13 years ago, right after she had her kittens. The resolution is poor (this was scanned from an old photo), but that little upside-down object by Purry's foot is Yummy. (You can see a little pointy tail sticking out, and two little white feet sticking up in the air.) In the lower left-hand corner is Graycat. Squeaky is probably somewhere in there, too, but since he is all-black, he blends in with Purry's fur. I have to go teach in an hour or so, but we'll visit Purry later today.
